Progress: 26 June 2010

Most exciting news is that we got our kitchen cabinets ordered on Saturday.  This is a general idea of what they will look like... not the white walls though.  And no, these are not ours.  They will not come in for 4 weeks.

We've been watching the sale ads and picking up a few things here and there... sure helps to come in under budget =)

Nathan went to replace the front door on Saturday and it turned out the wood underneath was all rotted out.  One job that ended up being more work that we anticipated, but still minor.

Nathan got my dining room wall framed in and we have finalized our ideas for the master suite and the main bathroom.  We hope to frame in those areas this week and replace the floor boards in a few areas and were weak.

Phil did get the kitchen floor replaced on Saturday.  There were a few areas we were concerned about in there, with the floor and drywall, so we ended up pulling it all.

While I was on a food run, I pulled up to the stop sign on our road and these deer were just posing for me.  They hardly seemed startled by my vehicle!  And yes, I seriously live on a gravel road where I now have a dust covered vehicle... most of the time!

While we were on a material run Saturday evening, Nathan found a nice chair to relax in at Menards! No, we did not buy this for our new patio! =)

Progress: 22 June 2010

This is more for my record than interest to anyone else.  You can't see a lot of change in these pictures, but from being over there, I know a lot has happened.  Nathan had some friends out at the house yesterday and they got a lot done!  I was so happy when I walked in and could see the change from the night before.

First of all, we finally got a dumpster so the clean up is moving along instead of piling up inside the house and outside the back door! =)

Nathan was able to get the rest of the brick and wood burner removed as well.  Thankfully, the wood floor underneath all of the brick is still in nice condition!

He has also finished gutting both bathrooms and everything has been carried out to the dumpster!  I have to say, I'm not going to miss that beautiful 70's harvest gold toilet and tub! =)

There were only a few existing cabinets left in the kitchen, but those have now been removed and the bulkhead has also been ripped out!  Thanks Babe... I'll be able to decorate above my cabinets now =)

Nathan did have to go buy a pump for the crawl space... all this rain and we have 2-3 inches of water sitting in our crawl space.  The HV/AC company had to bump us back until this next Monday because of the standing water, so hopefully the storms will hold off and we can get this all taken care of.  The previous homeowners did a number on the copper plumbing and electrical wiring, so we are getting that all figured out right now as well.

Nathan said we should be able to start buying finishing materials soon =)  To my ears that means PROGRESS!  I wanted this particular front door that I've been swooning over ever since we've been looking for a house, but I'm going to have to wait on that.  I'm just going to go with a plain one for now.  At least I'll be able to hang a wreath or something on this one... where we live now the storm door and front door are too close together to hang any decoration... BORING!  Back to the front door - I'm requesting a pretty door knob at least =)

I have a little time off during the next few days and hope to be over at the house doing whatever I can in our effort to spruce up the place!

De.mo.li.tion

the act of demolishing

Yep, that's what we've been up to! =)

We closed on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning we tore into the place.  Nathan tore out the benches that use to separate the living room and dining room.  They were ug-ly and made the place look like a hunting cabin!

He was also able to tear out the bathtub and most of the "guts" in the main bathroom.  Now we are just waiting on a dumpster to get rid of the piles of trash.

He also tore out a lot of trim boards and the brick around the wood burner.  It will ALL be gone SOON.

So far I've simply been fetching tools and taking pics.  I'm not minding the demo work after all =)  However, I was instructed I should probably pick up a pair of work gloves on my way home today.  I think that means I'll be on the clean-up crew this evening!  That's ok though - it means we are making progress!

Florida

Florida was nice!  Reality is that I'm back home and trying to catch up again.  The house closing is scheduled for Friday and thus begins our BUSY summer for sure!  Bring it on! :-)
